Abstract

Abstract: The Symbol Verbal of Popular Culture in Kompas Short Story Collection of
â??Kompas Mingguâ? used is to get description. The form of a symbol of popular culture in the
form of words, phrases, and sentences the function symbols of popular culture in the form of
words, phrases, and sentences. Based on the study of hermeneutics forms, meanings and
symbols fungsi are categorized into three, namely (1) the conventional symbol is a symbol of
natural; (2) symbol accidental symbol is social; and (3) the universal symbol is an essential
symbol. The analysis was divided into into three stages, namely (1) the stage of semantics, (2)
the reflective stage, and (3) the existential stage. Results of analysis in this study show that the
symbol of popular culture in a collection of short stories Compass has a shape in the form of
words, phrases, and sentences. The forms, meanings and symbols fungsi of symbols that form
of words, phrases, and sentences can be classified into three types, namely (1) the conventional
form that includes; (2) symbol accidental; and (3) the universal symbol.
